Low molecular weight anti-viral factors isolated from the serum of a hyperimmune regressor line chicken and methods of purifying same is provided. The factors are useful in the treatment and prevention of certain disease states. It also provides compounds that can be used to treat and/or prevent infectious bursal disease and infectious bronchitis disease. The low molecular weight anti-viral factors present can provide a new vaccine for the treatment and/or prevention of diseases in poultry, other animals, and human. Such diseases include, but are not limited to, those caused by retroviruses (i.e. RNA type), and malignant tumors (i.e. cancer).
