Abstract
In today's lecture, Honors College Dean Lynda Coon and Distinguished Professor of Art History Lynn Jacobs show how historians and art historians are rewriting our understanding of the Black Death based on new scientific evidence and art criticism. In today’s video you will encounter exciting new science deployed to illuminate the past. In the process, you will see that old ideas of a European pandemic, infected rats and fleas, and religious zealotry are giving way to a much more nuanced understanding that sheds light on how the current pandemic will and won’t make long-term changes in our own culture.
