Publishing Ethics

The editorial team follows the Principles of Transparency and Best Practices in Scholarly Publishing recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Interviews, Surveys, and Research involving Humans

The author is responsible for obtaining an interviewee’s permission to quote them and use information from an interview. If interviews, a survey, or other types of research involving humans were conducted under the sponsorship of a university or other research institution, the author may need approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB) before beginning research. The author may need to obtain permission to publish photographs of humans.

Generative AI (GenAI)

Homeplace celebrates human creativity! We encourage all contributors to use their own talents and require that they disclose any use of generative AI (genAI), such as Grammarly, Chat GPT, and Gemini, for writing or creating images, audio, or video.

Copyright

The author the copyright to their own work. If it is accepted for publication, they will be asked to sign the Author Agreement granting the University of Arkansas Libraries non-exclusive rights to publish it in Homeplace. All content in the magazine is open access, meaning that it is available for reading, viewing, listening, and downloading without charge. The author is welcome to publish their work with a Creative Commons (CC) license, which allows additional uses. However, they are not required to apply a CC license.

If the author includes material under copyright (e.g., maps, photographs) that they did not create, they may need to obtain permission from the copyright holder.
