Abstract
For the final day of our Pandemic course, we were joined by Gov. Asa Hutchinson, who had just returned from a meeting in the White House yesterday. He emphasized that we are still in the middle of the pandemic, and have to make new judgements each day. After summarizing Arkansas state government's response to COVID-19, Gov. Hutchinson opened the floor to a lively Q & A with the students. Their discussion touched on the recent spike in Arkansas cases, plans for education in the fall, the pandemic’s effects on minority communities and low-income people, the long-term consequences for the state, and plans for the state’s economic recovery.
